Jaffee Announces $650,000 in NYS Funding for Improvements to Intersection of Route 9W and Oak Tree Road
April 11, 2018
Palisades, NY – Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern) today announced she secured $650,000 in the New York State 2018-19 Budget for pedestrian safety and mobility improvements at the intersection of state Route 9W and Oak Tree Road in the Hamlet of Palisades.
After meeting with Palisade’s residents to discuss their concerns and recommendations for improving the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists at the busy and often congested intersection, Jaffee worked together with NYSDOT and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to secure the funding.
Assemblywoman Jaffee said, “As we push for more walkable, bikeable communities, we must revise our existing infrastructure to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and cyclists. This area of Palisades is not only a major highway junction, but also the four corners of a vibrant community that is a gateway to many tourist destinations in the lower Hudson Valley, including the river towns of Piermont, Grandview, and the Nyacks in my district. I am grateful to Speaker Heastie and to the State for responding to our concerns and providing funding in the budget to begin making these critical safety improvements.”
New York State Department of Transportation Acting Commissioner Paul A. Karas said, “Enhancing safety and mobility are of the highest priority for all State Department of Transportation projects. We appreciate partnering with Assemblywoman Jaffee for the planned improvements at this busy intersection.”
Orangetown Supervisor, Chris Day said, “This funding is excellent news for the residents of Palisades. I’m proud to have worked with Assemblywoman Jaffee on this issue and thank her for her efforts to correct a dangerous situation.”
Orangetown Highway Superintendent Jim Dean said, “This is really great news! I know Assemblywoman Jaffee has been working closely with the concerned residents of Palisades and Town of Orangetown Elected Officials for some time now to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists at this dangerous intersection. In the past five years, the Town has invested close to $500,000.00 for drainage, road realignment, new curbs and sidewalks to this end.
